Mission

The mission of Alaska Native Day at Metini–Fort Ross is to honor the ancestors, history, resilience, and living cultures of Alaska Native peoples whose lives are deeply connected to this place. Through the sharing of elders’ stories, dance, traditional arts, and community gatherings, we seek to preserve cultural knowledge, educate future generations and the broader public, and acknowledge the difficult history of Alaska Natives who were forcibly brought to California by the Russian American Company.
With gratitude and respect for the Kashia Pomo, on whose ancestral lands at Metini we gather, Alaska Native Day creates a space for remembrance, cultural renewal, connection, and the strengthening of relationships among Alaska Native communities and with the Kashia people.
